Welcome to the Sawtooth Interpretive and Historical Association. Folks who know us call us SIHA (SEE-hah)! We are a non-profit, member-based organization working in cooperation with the Sawtooth and Salmon-Challis National Forests.
We are working to save and tell the stories of this grand environment…
The Forest Service is grateful to have a partner like SIHA to support the activities vital to your experience in this beautiful place. When you visit the area, stop at the Stanley Museum located at the historic Valley Creek Ranger Station; take the walking tour of Stanley; attend one of the Sawtooth Forum and Lecture Series presentations; browse the books at any of the outlets; or ask a SIHA volunteer about the stunning landscape.
With the help of the Forest Service, donations from members and friends, grants from the Sawtooth Society and Idaho Heritage Trust, and the expertise of Sawtooth Valley Builders, exterior restoration is almost complete.
On a spectacular early October evening on our way to meet friends for dinner, we decided to drive by Stanley Lake overlook to see if there were any migrating birds to view. Much to our delight, there was a single line of 82 tundra swans about 20 feet from the edge of the far shore!
SIHA will host the Sawtooth Forum and Lecture Series again this coming summer in Stanley!
SIHA’s members will be gathering in Stanley on June 17, 2010 for the next annual all-members’ meeting. Details and location to come. If you’re not already a member, you can join today! Click here to download a membership form.
